WARNING: There are different deadlines to file complaints or legal actions. Generally speaking: Under the Canadian Human Rights Act, you must file a complaint within 12 months. Under the Quebec Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms, 6 months (when filed against a municipality) or 2 years. Under the Quebec Code of Ethics for Police Officers, 12 months. To file a grievance through your union, it is usually within 30 days, or depending on your collective agreement. Some exceptions exist.
