POLICE ETHICS COMMISSIONER TO CITE TWO MONTREAL POLICE OFFICERS FOR ABUSIVE SEARCH AT VILLA MARIA METRO

Montreal, September 16, 2011 --- Two Montreal Police officers will be cited by the Police Ethics Commissioner for conduct contrary to the Quebec Code of Police Ethics in a case involving two anglophone Black youths at the Villa Maria metro station last year.

The youths, who were accompanied by a biracial youth, who stopped and fined while their friend was not. In the process, many of the youths' civil rights were also reportedly violated. Assisted by CRARR, one of the youths' mother decided to challenged the practice by filing complaints with the Police Ethics Commissioner and the Quebec human rights commission. The case can shed light on persistent reports of racial profiling at that metro station.

More to come.
