CRARR TO HOLD INFORMATION SESSION FOR ENGINEERING STUDENTS ON THE DISCRIMINATORY ITAR RULE

Montreal, July 27, 2010 --- CRARR will hold an information session on the discriminatory U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) that apply to the Canadian aerospace industry and that deny to Canadian citizens and permanent residents equal opportunity in employment.

The session, which will take place in early September, will provide to engineering students at Concordia and McGill universities information on their civil rights when they begin to seek work in Canadian aerospace companies that receive American military contracts.

Under ITAR, persons born in countries deemed to be hostile to American national security (see the list elsewhere on this web site) will be practically denied equal access to employment and internship with these companies, regardless of how long they have been in Canada. ITAR are deemed to legitimize racial and ethnic discrimination in employment through private commercial contracts that evade international human rights laws.

CRARR will also encourage students and their associations to challenge these discriminatory practices.

More information to come.
