THE CITY OF LONGUEUIL WILL RE-TRY THE DEBELLEFEUILLE CASE


Montreal, November 30, 2011 --- As a result of the Superior Court on November 17 to quash the guilty verdict for Joel Debellefeuille, a Black man who was intercepted in his BMW by the police in 2009 because of his “Québécois family name” and to send the case back to the Municipal Court for a re-trial, the City of Longueuil has decided to go ahead with another attempt to prosecute Mr. Debellfeuille for a highway traffic offense.

The trial at the Longueuil Municipal Court will be held on Friday, December 16, 2011, at 9:30 am. The courthouse is located at 100, Place Charles-Le Moyne, (station de métro Longueuil), and the hearing, in Room 1.
