FINAL ARGUMENTS IN THE CHINESE EMPLOYMENT RACISM CASE NEXT TUESDAY

Montreal, March 21, 2011 --- Closing legal arguments in the case involving fifteen Chinese workers being victims of racial discrimination on the job at Calego International, will be presented tomorrow, Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at 9:30 am, before the Quebec Human Rights Tribunal.

CRARR, which has represented these workers since 2006, will be represented by Aymar Missakila; the Quebec Human Rights and Youth Rights Commission, by Maurice Drapeau and Calego International, by Julius Grey.

The Quebec Human Rights and Youth Rights Commission ruled in 2009 that the fifteen workers were victims of racial discrimination in employment in 2006, when they were gathered and blamed by the company's president for the unsanitary conditions of the kitchen and the washrooms. Racial slurs were used against them, which led to immediate protests, walk-outs and resignations. The Commission recommended a total of $164,000 in damages for the workers.

The hearing at the Montreal Courthouse,1 Notre Dame East, Room 13.10, is open to the public.
