FILIPINA LIVE-IN CAREGIVERS CALL FOR FIRM GOVERNMENT ACTION AGAINST HUMAN TRAFFICKING AND CIVIL RIGHTS VIOLATIONS

Montreal, March 17, 2011 --- Many Filipina Live-in Caregivers in the city are victims of civil rights violations and conditions that could qualify as human trafficking, yet many public authorities continue to turn a blind eye to these women's plight year after year.

CRARR and PINAY, a women's rights group, have documented the systemic failure of public agencies such as the Human Rights Commission and the Rental Board in protecting these women from discrimination, exploitation and abuse in employment, immigration and housing.

More to come.
